Pakistan and Jordan possess immense potential to share expertise and learn from each other in a bid to produce highquality pharmaceutical products and enhance exports, said Jordanian Ambassador Ibrahim Almadani.
Speaking during a visit to the pharmaceutical manufacturing units of Islamabad, he vowed to play a significant role in strengthening cooperation between Jordan and Pakistan, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector.
Along with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, Almadani examined production units of pharmaceutical companies and appreciated the use of latest technology coupled with modern manufacturing facilities.
“Factories in Jordan are also producing high-quality pharmaceutical products,” he said.
“Close cooperation between the companies of Jordan and Pakistan will be mutually beneficial as it will help both the nations to share expertise and technology besides producing worldclass products for exports.”
On the occasion, the ICCI president briefed the envoy about the potential of Pakistan’s pharmaceutical industry. He pointed out that Pakistan was emerging as a key player in the global pharmaceutical sector due to the excellent quality of its medicines.
“Over 750 pharmaceutical units, including multinational companies, are operating successfully in Pakistan and they are meeting around 70% of the medicine demand of the country,” he said.
“Many of them are exporting products all around the world.”
He highlighted that Pakistan’s pharmaceutical exports increased around 23% in the first quarter (Jul-Sept 2020) of current fiscal year, which indicated its bright prospects.
He was of the view that by developing close cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, Pakistan and Jordan could achieve significant benefits for their respective economies and boost exports.
He assured the envoy that the ICCI would fully cooperate in developing strong business linkages between private sectors of the two countries for achieving mutually beneficial results.
Pharmaceutical company owners Nasir Qureshi, Fazl-eHanan and Shamim Ahmed Khan gave presentations about their production facilities and said that they would like to enhance exports of their products to Jordan and other regional countries.
They urged the government to streamline the registration process of medicines in order to facilitate the growth of pharmaceutical industry.
