The suspected killer of Race Course SHO Inspector Imran Abbas once again managed to flee after a pre-emptive shout from his partner as the police conducted a raid on a plaza in the Saddar area of Rawalpindi on Thursday, a police spokesperson said.
But police managed to arrest the man, Zahoor Ahmed, who had given shelter to the suspect at large, Zahid. Four others found with him were also detained.
Civil Lines SHO Tanvir Kiyani said that they conducted a raid on Haji Bashir Plaza to arrest the suspected criminal involved in the SHO’s killing. According to sources, Zahoor Ahmed shouted about the police’s arrival and told Zahid to run after which the suspected killer fled from a backdoor of the building, taking advantage of the dark.
Ahmed ran to the building’s roof and jumped from there in an attempt to flee but got injured. The police caught him as well as four others, Abdul Majeed, Sagheer Ahmed, Zahid Munir Qureshi and Faizan Zahoor, who were present at the location.

The police have registered a case against the suspects and started the investigation.
Notably, to arrest SHO’s killers, the police had set up pickets to book a suspect named Shahid. The suspect came across police when he was going with Zahid and his brothers on a motorcycle on March 12.
Crossfire ensued between the police and the suspects during which Shahid sustained injuries and eventually succumbed to his wounds and died while Zahid and an unidentified man managed to run away. However, the police had booked Shahid’s brother named Nasir and recovered weapons from his possession.
During the investigation, the booked suspect confessed that Zahid and his accomplice had killed the SHO. The police had also issued sketches of the suspected criminal.
Blood donation camp
Meanwhile, in the memory of SHO Abbas, the Rawalpindi police will set up a blood donation camp at Police Lines on Friday (today). A spokesperson said that the collected blood would be donated to thalassemia patients. The camp will remain in place from 9am till 4pm.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus appealed to police personnel to donate blood.
