RAWALPINDI:

School children were educated and trained on road safety rules in a programme held by the Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) held near the Cheering Cross on Peshawar Road. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Mazhar Iqbal distributed chocolates and awareness pamphlets among the participants.

Speaking on the occasion the other day, the CTO said traffic education was too important for students as it would make them responsible citizens having a good civic sense.

He added that it would also enable the students to learn their responsibilities as road users.

The CTO said the number of vehicles and motorbikes in Rawalpindi was increasing with each day passing and, therefore, maintaining the traffic flow had become a big challenge.

To achieve this goal, Iqbal said the CTP was working in different areas. One of which is road safety education and awareness programmes, he added.

The CTO said the CTP Education Wing was visiting schools, colleges, universities, and other places to highlight the importance of road safety.

Road safety seminar

The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) held a road safety seminar at the Jamia Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak on Tuesday.

The activity was attended by a large number of scholars, students and other dignitaries of the area. Addressing the seminar, NHMP Sector Commander Shafiqul Rehman highlighted the role of religious scholars in road safety. He also informed them about the efforts done to save human lives on the motorways.

The NHMP spokesperson said the seminar was held on the directions of NHMP Inspector General (IG) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam and Additional IG North Region Abbas Hussain. The participants were informed about road safety through a multimedia presentation. NHMP teams also answered questions asked the participants regarding road safety.

The spokesperson said the motorway police had launched an awareness campaign on the use of seat belts, helmets, side mirrors and to sensitise road users regarding traffic rules.
