Female muggers on BRT buses nabbed

Six stolen mobile phones and Rs5,000 cash recovered from their possession

Two women were arrested in Peshawar on Tuesday for stealing mobile phones from female passengers including students travelling on BRT buses.

According to the police, the women were involved in stealing expensive mobile phones and cash from female citizens travelling on the BRT bus route within the limits of Tehkal police station.

The arrested women confessed to their crimes during the preliminary investigation. After identification, six stolen mobile phones and Rs5,000 in cash was recovered from their possession.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the plaintiff, wife of Zubair Muhammad, resident of Kohat Road filed a report with police after she was mugged on a BRT bus.

She had alleged that unknown female thieves operating on a BRT bus had stolen a valuable mobile phone and cash from her purse.

Taking a notice of the incident, SP Cantt Muhammad Tahir formed a special team comprising DSP Town Arshad Khan and SHO Tehkal Sajjad Ahmed, tasking them with arresting the accused persons.

SHO Tehkal interrogated several criminals and suspects using CCTV footage installed in BRT routes.

Later, he conducted a successful operation in Tehkal area along with women police and arrested both the accused women who were identified as Mrs Adil and Mrs Mohammad. They are said to be residents of Nowshera.

A case has been registered against both the women and further investigation is underway.
