ATC remands two over abduction, rape

Gives IO till March 8 to submit interim challan against Haleem

KARACHI:

The administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court on Thursday gave police physical remand of two alleged rapists.

The police produced the accused, Sami and Fawad, before the court. The investigation officer stated that the rape victim has recorded her statement.

Sami and Fawad were arrested after she identified them as her abductors and rapists, he said, adding that samples collected from both the vicitm and the accused have been sent for DNA testing.

The court handed over the accused to the police till February 27.

Naqeebullah murder case

The ATC No3 hearing a case at Karachi Central Jail, reserved verdict on the bail pleas of Muhammad Anar and Faisal, both accused in the murder cases of Naqeebullah and others.

Former Malir SSP Rao Anwar, former DSP Qamar and other accused were produced before the court.

After the completion of arguments by counsels, the court reserved the verdict on the bail pleas of Anar and Faisal.

The witness statements could not be recorded on the day due to absence of lawyers.

The court directed the witnesses to ensure their presence at the next hearing slated for March 4. The verdict is to be announced then as well.

Extension granted

The administrative judge of an ATC gave the investigation officer till March 8 to submit the interim challan of the cases filed against opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh.

Jail officials produced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and co-accused Sameer Mir Shaikh before the court. But Haleem could not attend the hearing due to the Sindh Assembly session, the IO informed.

The IO sought more time from the court to submit the interim challan and his request was accepted.
