ISLAMABAD:

The information technology (IT) ministry has instructions the government ministries, divisions and subordinate departments to shift their websites to the data centre of the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) to ensure cyber security.

The ministry, through a letter to all the federal secretaries, also instructed that all the official e-mails are brought to addresses containing ‘gov.pk’ and also shift to the ‘e-office’ to improve public service delivery, ease operation and ensure transparency.

According to a statement issued by the IT ministry, the letter had been sent by IT Secretary Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Thursday on the direction of IT Minister Syed Aminul Haq. The letter said in case of any cyber attack, websites on the private domain could be exposed to risk of the data leak.

The letter also asked the government departments to bring all official e-mails to ‘gov.pk’. In addition, the minister also directed in a review meeting regarding the e-office that the National Information Technology Board (NITB) should complete work on ‘e-office’ project as soon as possible.
