Prison break attempt foiled

Adiala Jail Assistant Superintendent Saqib Amin said that the blade could have caused a major incident inside the jail

RAWALPINDI:

Officials at the Adiala Jail on Sunday foiled an apparent escape plan of prisoners by seizing a hacksaw blade hidden in the food for an inmate.

“An attempt to cut prison bars at Rawalpindi Adiala Jail has been foiled, while a suspect has been arrested for trying to bring iron cutting blades into the premises of the prison,” an official told The Express Tribune.

Adiala Jail Assistant Superintendent Saqib Amin said that the blade could have caused a major incident inside the jail. The suspect, Aman Abbasi, was the stepson of an inmate, Khalid Khan. Abbasi had come to visit Khan who was doing time in a drugs smuggling case. Like many other visitors, he had also brought food and fruits for prisoners. Jail police detected found a hacksaw blade hidden in cooked rice.
