Barrister Danial Chaudhry, son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Chaudhry Tanveer Khan, has said that government officials illegally demolished many of their buildings in violation of court orders.

Speaking in Express News programme ‘Experts’, Chaudhry said that the demolished buildings were legal and the layout plans had been approved by the RDA. He added that they had the courts order, which said that the property should not be damaged.

“Whoever raises a question, they try to suppress it by force. This wave of oppression will not last long,” said Chaudhry, while criticising the government. “We will move a contempt of court plea,” he added.

“They talk about giving jobs, but four marquees were demolished where thousands of people had been employed. Didn’t they think of that? Where are they leading the country to by taking away the jobs of the poor?”

Chaudhry slammed Prime minister Imran Khan, saying: “Khan Sahib can legalise his house by paying Rs1.6 million.” Referring to the demolished building in Rawalpindi, he said: “This is their act of vandalism. They are pushing the country towards anarchy.”

Chaudhry said that by demolishing their buildings, “they did not challenge our reputation but challenged Pakistan’s judicial system.” He added: “We have a court order not to evict anyone and not to damage the property, but despite this the buildings were demolished illegally.”

The lawyer asked would the officials involved in the demolition be held accountable. He added that this action would shadow their entire careers. Chaudhry warned that the courts and the legal fraternity would not let go of this incident.

Chaudhry further asked what message had been sent to the opposition, the courts and the country. “We and our party are fighting them and will continue to do so, he said. “The judiciary should take notice of this incident.”

Responding to a question, Barrister Danial Chaudhry said that the government lawyers were aware of the stay order. “The chief justice should take notice that the orders of his lower judiciary were being flouted.”
