ROs, polling officers appointed for Senate polls

ECP summons Vawda in personal capacity on Feb 24

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday appointed the returning and polling officers for the Senate elections that are scheduled to be held in March.

The ECP issued a notification in this regard.

In Islamabad, ECP Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal will perform duty as returning officer whereas Shamshad Khan, Shahid Iqbal, Asif Ali Yaseen, Waqas Ahmed Malik, Atif Rahim, Kashif Abbas Malik and Tabassum Javed Abbasi will work as polling officers.

Provincial election commissioners Aijaz Anwar Chohan for Sindh, Ghulam Israr Khan for Punjab, Sharifullah for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Muhammad Raziq for Balochistan have been appointed as returning officers.

Polling for Senate elections will be held in the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies.

The ECP will issue the schedule for Senate polls on February 11.

Meanwhile, the ECP fined Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda Rs50,000 for seeking postponement in the dual nationality case and asked him to appear before it in personal capacity on February 24.

The chief election commissioner stated that the ECP was mulling to seek assistance from the investigation agencies over non-cooperation from Vawda.
