Transporters say will hike fares if fuel prices go up

The transporters of Rawalpindi on Saturday announced hiking fares in case of an increase in petroleum prices.

All transporters of Rawalpindi have maintained that if the government raised petrol and diesel prices again on January 31 (today), they would increase bus and wagon fares on all routes with immediate effect from February 1.

The transporters have also warned that if the government and the police resorted to action against them, they would hold a wheel-jam strike.

Transporters Union leaders, including Muhammad Asif Khan, Tariq Khan and Malik Mustafa, while talking to The Express Tribune said the price of petroleum products had been on the rise for the last eight months. The fuel prices were raised by Rs2.5 at the start of January and are now expected to rise again by Rs2 to Rs4.

They said that with such constant increment, they could not run busses on old fares. Owing to this, the transporters have unanimously decided to increase the fares.
