After Emma Corrin’s laudworthy perfromance in the fourth season of Netflix's hit show, The Crown, now Hollywood star Kristen Stewart is all set to step into the role of the People's Princess, Diana, in an upcoming movie titled Spencer. Helmed by film-maker Pablo Larraín, the film will focus on the life and marriage of Princess of Wales, reported Deadline.

The director has previously worked on biopic hits like Jackie (2016) and Neruda (2016). Spencer will be based on the 90s, when Diana decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has penned the script.

“It’s very contained,” Larraín previously told the publication of the story. Diana’s bond with her sons, Prince William and Harry will also be a key part of the film. However, the producers have not confirmed as of yet, whether who will play Prince Charles and their two children: Prince William and Prince Harry.

Talking about the film and the role she has taken on, the Twilight star shared, “Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life. It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name; Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her."

Larraín creative team consists of Portrait of Lady on Fire DOP Claire Mathon, Little Women’s costume designer Jacqueline Durran, makeup and hair by Yoshihara, who is known for Murder on the Orient Express and Guy Hendrix Dyas from Inception.

The production for Spencer is due to begin shortly as film is slated to release in autumn of 2021. Conspicuously, 2022 will mark 25 years since Diana’s tragic death.
