Prince Harry denies quitting social media

Suits star Meghan Markle and Prince Harry quit social media last year in March, after officially stepping down as Royals. The duo has, ever since, made news for their activities off screen and public decisions, reported People.

There were multiple reports at the beginning of 2021, stating that the couple is thinking to quit social media completely. However, recently in an interview with Fast Company Prince Harry shared, "We will revisit social media when it feels right for us — perhaps when we see more meaningful commitments to change or reform — but right now we've thrown much of our energy into learning about this space and how we can help."

The two shared a joint Instagram account by the name @SussexRoyals but in recent news, will no longer use the official account as stated on their website SussexRoyal.com. They are said to be inactive. "Both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future," a spokesperson for former Royals had specified.

Recently, Prince Harry stated in an interview that the internet ought to be modified according to humanitarian standards. "We have seen time and again what happens when the real-world cost of misinformation is disregarded. There is no way to downplay this," he said while nodding towards the recent incident at the Capitol Hill in the US.

"There was a literal attack on democracy in the United States, organised on social media, which is an issue of violent extremism," Harry continued, giving out more examples to back his claims on misinformation on social media. He also cited the humanitarian crisis and genocide in Myanmar and destruction in the Amazon.

"I think it's a false choice to say you have to pick between free speech or a more compassionate and trustworthy digital world," he said. "They are not mutually exclusive."
