Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer to star in 'The First Lady'

Actor will next be seen in ‘First Lady’

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is coming to TV, fictionally at least. After the much-praised The Crown, another political series is in order, titled The First Lady. It is set to star How to Get Away With Murder protagonist Viola Davis as the former US First Lady, reported Variety.

The said series will travel back in time to reflect upon the personal and political lives of First Ladies throughout US history. Season one is set to revolve around Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford and Michelle Obama.

The First Lady will hail from Showtime and Lionsgate Television. A source quoted, “The series will turn it’s lens on the East Wing of the White House, as opposed to the West, where many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden, made by complex, dynamic and the charismatic First Ladies of America.”

Davis will also be co-producing alongside Julius Tennon via their JuVee Productions banners.

Just in time, after the Biden-Harris inauguration, Showtime had announced that Scarface actor Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast as Betty Ford. She is also the first announced cast member after Davis. The upcoming serial will be Pfeiffer’s first major TV project since the ‘80s. She is most recently known for playing Janet Van Dyne in the Ant-Man movies.
