KARACHI:

The Sindh government decided on Saturday to include economic and legal experts in the provincial cabinet's sub-committee on the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

Taking the decision during the second consultative meeting of the sub-committee on the PSM, provincial ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Saeed Ghani and special assistant to the Sindh chief minister Waqar Mehdi underlined that the inclusion of person having expertise in the area of economics and law would enable the committee to make decisions in the light of expert opinion.

They vowed to protect the interests of PSM employees, with Ghani and Shah stating that the PSM was a national asset and they would avail all resources and options at hand to save it from destruction.

The ministers said the position of the Sindh government on the PSM was clear from day one and all stakeholders were being consulted on the matter.

They further decried that the issue of PSM was never discussed during the Council of Common Interest meetings, despite it being a national issue.

The minister resolved to take up the issue in the National Assembly and Senate and announced that a resolution for the Sindh to take control of the PSM would be passed in the provincial assembly next week.
