Mystery surrounds doctor’s murder in North Waziristan

The deceased Dr Waliullah was a professor of Pathology in Bannu Medical College

MIRANSHAH:

A doctor working as assistant professor in Bannu Medical College was gunned down by unidentified people on Epi Road in Miranshah, North Waziristan district.

Dr Waliullah was on his way to Mir Ali from Peshawar where he practiced in his private laboratory every Saturday and Sunday.

He was accompanied by his friend Dr Zahid Iqbal who escaped unhurt in the firing. Dr Zahid later told that they were on their way in a car when they heard loud firing and during driving Dr Waliullah was hit by a bullet from back side. He was rushed to his brother’s clinic where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Dr Waliullah was rushed to Dr Asad’s clinic but he succumbed to his injuries,” Zahid said, adding that the deceased had no feud with any one and it was a mysterious death.

The deceased Dr Waliullah was a professor of Pathology in Bannu Medical College but he visited his native town each Saturday and Sunday and practiced in his private laboratory.

“He belonged to a well-known local family. His other brothers are also doctors and his murder was widely condemned among the locals,” said a local resident while talking to The Express Tribune, adding that police also reached the spot and a large number of locals also rushed to the site soon after the incident.

Police declined to comment on the matter calling it premature to jump to the conclusion without investigations.

Meanwhile, Young Doctors’ Association has condemned the brutal murder of Dr Waliullah and demanded of the government to arrest the culprits responsible. They also issued a strike call to record their protest against the murder.
