Six OLMT employees arrested for ‘torture’

Victims say they were made hostage, locked in room

Police arrested as many as six staff members including one female employee of Orange Line Metro Train, Awan Town Station on the charges of humiliation and torture on labourers who were busy in warming themselves by lighting a fire on the green belt at Mazdouraan Adda Awan Town.

Police said Ali Ahmad, a victim labourer, said he along with three other workers were standing on green belt near Awan Town and warming them after burning fire while standing under an Orange Train Station. Meanwhile, six to seven metro train employees including women while carrying club reached and captured them.

They made them hostage and forced them into an Orange train station and locked them in a room. The suspects beat them up with clubs and also hurled life threats at them.

The suspects also snatched valuables from them. The torture episode was also captured on a video. A spokesperson for Lahore police said Capital City Police Officer Lahore Ghulam Mahmood Dogar had taken immediate notice of the sad incident and directed SP Iqbal Town to initiate strict legal action against the accused involved in misbehaving and torturing the labourers.

Police freed the labourers from illegal detention of the OLMT staff and arrested the suspects. The medico-legal process has been initiated and an FIR was registered against the suspects while further investigation was underway. The accused arrested included OLMT staff including Farman, Tanzeel, Javed, Amir, Waqas and female staff member Mubeen.

Dogar said that no one is above the law, justice will be provided to the affected labourers and writ of Government will be maintained at any cost. Another incident of brutal torture on a woman was reported in Sundar by the neighbours. Miraj Muhammad, the husband of victim Rehana Bibi, said that he along with his wife and children was inside their house. His one child went outside that had a minor dispute with other children of the neighbourhood.
