MULTAN:

The fog blanket in several parts of South Punjab affected the train schedules on Thursday. The arrival and departure timetable of various trains was altered keeping in view the low visibility levels.

“At least five trains were delayed by two to five hours due to fog,” public relations officer (PRO) of Pakistan Railways Multan Division said. Heavy fog engulfed majority of the region as the weather turned even colder, disabling trains from arriving or departing on time.

The intense cold weather also irked passengers, particularly those arriving from far flung areas, lying on wait for rescheduled trains. Citizens complained of lack of facilities at the railway stations to beat the cold and urged authorities to upgrade the stations and ensure proper provision of utilities. The PRO confirmed that Pak Business Express was delayed by five hours while Zakariya Express and Karachi Express were late by two hours.

“Tezgam Express and Awam Express also arrived at the platform quite late,” he said, adding that both trains reached the city one hour and 40 minutes behind schedule.

“Furthermore, Millat Express was delayed by an hour,” he stated. Meanwhile, spokesman for the Multan Airport informed APP that Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) flight scheduled to arrive from Jeddah would suffer a delay of at least one hour due to poor visibility around Multan International Airport. He maintained that the visibility around the airport reduced up to 200 metres on Thursday.
