5 trends that will gain popularity in 2021
It’s been a tough year for fashion and the Coronavirus pandemic has changed lives in more ways than we can imagine. From the routine commute to work, to dining out with friends and attending weddings without fear, our lives turned overnight. The way we dressed, the way we ate, the way we worked and the way we interacted with others in 2020 changed considerably.
With more people spending time at home, the way we dressed changed in 2020. Fashion choices have been leaning towards casual clothing and loungewear, appropriate enough to attend a zoom call but comfy enough to laze on the couch in. More people worked out at home, hence opting for more sportswear. The pandemic has truly given rise to wearable fashion and we think it’s here to stay. While we all may be opting for a more relaxed wardrobe moving forward, here are a few spring/summer 2021 trends to incorporate into your wardrobes to add an element of fun to those sweatpants and slacks!
Puff Sleeves
Statement, exaggerated sleeves have been on trend for quite a few seasons now but if fashion forecasts are to be believed, puff sleeves are going to be even bigger and bolder in the summer of 2021. These were spotted across a number of virtual fashion shows and can easily be incorporated in your laidback wardrobe.
Pretty Pastels
Pastels are always a summer time staple and no pandemic is going to keep these pretty pastels at bay. From candy-floss pink to lovely lavender and cool blues, pastel hues are going to brighten any summer’s day look. These sorbet-hued pickings are oh so versatile and suit a wide variety of skin tones as well.
Mellow Yellows
It comes as no surprise that mellow yellows will be trending in 2021 because Pantone has named one of its colours for the year 2021 as yellow. This yellow hue was selected for its “illuminating positivity.” As we will eventually transition from winter to spring, expect to see a lot of this colour around; be it on clothing, handbags or accessories.
Slouchy Denim
This past year, we lived, ate and slept in sweatpants, because comfort is key, duh! Having spent most of 2020 in sweatpants, there’s no way we’re ready to compromise on comfort any time soon. Slouchy denim will in fact give you more of an edge as compared to sweatpants, but will also ensure that you don’t lose out on the comfort factor. Ditch the skinnies and opt for the slouch!
Flower Power
Florals are a key staple in every spring/summer wardrobe but this year, think bigger and bolder. We’re used to seeing the pretty floral detailing, with a delicate feminine touch, but this year’s flowers are going to bloom slightly differently. Powerful, over the top floral prints will definitely help raise your style quotient this summer season!
