Robbers break into house, kill owner over resistance

Deceased was descendant of SMIU founder Hassanally Effendi

Robbers barged into a bungalow located near Mazar-e-Quaid on Tuesday night and killed a man for putting up resistance. The deceased, Zain Effendi, was a descendant of the Sindh Madrassahtul Islam University's founder Hassanally Effendi, and the incident went viral on social media. By Wednesday evening, the police had managed to obtain pictures of the suspected perpetrators and further investigation was underway.

Initial investigations suggest that five armed robbers broke into the house, located in the limits of Jamshed Quarters Police Station, and held the family hostage at gunpoint. The house help was also tied up.

When Effendi, 52, put up resistance, the perpetrators opened fire at him, killing him. According to Jamshed Qaurters SHO Chaudhry Zahid, the robbers barged into the bungalow at 3.55am and remained inside for 35 minutes. They shot six bullets, told the SHO, adding that one of the gunshots hit Effendi in the face and that claimed his life.

The thieves took off with two mobile phones, cash, jewelry and other valuables. The SHO further shared that the robbers had tied up the security guards at the bungalow's gate with a rope before breaking in. The police collected fingerprints of the robbers and found a 9mm pistol at the crime scene, which has been sent for forensic analysis.

"Police suspect Afghan bandits to be involved in the robbery. The police are however collecting evidence including the CCTV footage from nearby surroundings and are closely investigating the matter. Soon the suspects will be traced and arrested," said SHO Zahid.

Meanwhile, the deceased, who owned an IT and a food company and had lands in Dadu, was shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
