KARACHI:

Expressing concern over the suspension of gas supply to factories by the Sui Southern Gas Company, Sindh Industries and Commerce Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday to announce the restoration of gas supply to industries.

Assuring traders of the Sindh government's support, he said it would make all-out efforts to address and resolve their issues at every level.

Then, dubbing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government "U-turn government," he said the Centre's incompetency and faulty policies had had a negative impact on industries.

"And this will bring about a storm of unemployment," he warned. "Then, people already troubled by a crisis resulting out of the coronavirus [pandemic], will be further distressed."

He also attributed the investors' hesitance to fund initiatives in Pakistan to the federal government's policies, which, he said, had been increasing difficulties for industrialists instead of providing them relief.

"The federal government's move to levy taxes and increasing margins on petroleum products has further burdened people, who are already struck by inflation," he remarked, adding that "It seems this government will completely ruin the economy."
