KARACHI:

Three alleged robbers were shot dead while two others managed to flee during separate encounters with the police on Sunday.

According to police, three robbers on a motorcycle were attempting to loot a transporter at the nursery near the Khatme Nabuwat Chowk in the limits of Sachal Police Station, when a cop, who was buying plants at the nursery, encountered them.

The police claim that the suspects opened fire at Inspector Asad Kaleem of Airport Police Station and he retaliated, injuring the alleged robbers. One of the suspects managed to escape.

Sachal SHO Haroon Korai said that Sachal police officials took the injured suspects under custody and the injured succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital. The identities of the deceased could not be immediately ascertained, but two TT pistols were found in their possession, Korai claimed.

He added that the police are searching for the third injured suspect in different government and private hospitals.

Separately, a police patrol team on motorcycle signalled two men, also on motorcycle, near Siddiq-e-Akbar Mosque in North Karachi Sector 11A, indicating for them to stop on the basis of suspicion. The suspected persons, however, accelerated speed and attempted to flee, according to police.

The police claim that the patrol team attempted to chase the suspects but the latter opened fire. One suspect managed to escape but the other was killed by retaliatory fire of the patrol team, said the police. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

According to police, a pistol was found in the possession of the deceased, and the pistol will be sent for forensic analysis. The police claim that tracing the suspected person who managed to escape will be easier once the deceased suspect is identified.
