Sindh records 27 more Covid fatalities

With 1,254 fresh cases, provincial tally rises to 215,679

As many as 27 more persons succumbed to the coronavirus overnight, lifting the death toll to 3,560, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday. Another 1,254 Covid-19 cases were also detected in the province when 13,383 tests were conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, constituting a positivity rate of 9.4 per cent. The provincial coronavirus tally stood at 215,679 as the pandemic-hit year came to a close.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House, 2,360,653 tests have been conducted thus far.

As many as 769 persons also recovered from the virus overnight, said the CM, lifting the number of recoveries in the province to 195,420.

According to Shah, there are at least 16, 699 active coronavirus cases in the province. Of these 15,960 are in home isolation,11 at isolation centres and 728 admitted at different hospitals. The condition of 657 patients is stated to be critical, said Shah, adding that at least 73 persons have been shifted to ventilators.

Out of the 1254 new cases, 1074 were detected in Karachi. Meanwhile, Hyderabad reported 33 cases, Dadu 21, Badin and Naushehroferoze 10 each, Jamshoro and Shaheed Benazirabad nine each, Ghotki, Jacobabad and Mirpurkhas seven each, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana and Thatta six each, Khairpur, Sukkur and Umerkot four, Kashmore, Matiari and Tando Mohammad Khan three each and Shikarpur one.

Yet again, the CM urged people to follow the coronavirus-mandated SOPs.
