How to make your bigger eyes look

December 26, 2020

The right eyeliner style, shade of your concealer, and a few swipes of mascara. Just a few simple tweaks to your make-up routine is all it takes to emphasise your eyes.

1. Prep prep prep

This is the most important and often neglected part of any make-up routine. When you’re prepping your skin for make-up, make sure to put some cooling pack under and on your eyelids. This helps settle any puffiness or swelling around or under your eyes. Don’t forget to dab on a silicone-based primer on crow’s-feet to soften and fill lines.

2. Brow Shape

Groomed eyebrows create a flattering frame for the eyes. And anything that accentuates the eyes is going to make them appear larger. Clean up the areas above and below brows and fill in any gaps with an eyebrow pencil.

3. Conceal

Dark circles can make your eyes appear smaller. The right concealer can work wonders on reducing darkness and discolouration. It can also bring attention to the entire eye area and draw attention to darker lashes. Choose a shade that’s slightly lighter and warmer than your skin tone to brighten and correct any undertones. Feel free to use colour correctors to lighten the undertones. Colour correctors make the job of concealers much easier and more effective. Blend carefully, buffing with your finger or a sponge, working underneath and around the eyes and all over the lids to get an even base.

4. Draw a thin Line

To enhance your lashes and frame your eyes, apply a thin strip of black liquid liner along the base of your upper lashes.

5. Curl

Almost every beauty addict will have at least one lash curler in her make-up bag, we’ll be the first to admit it’s a step we often forget especially during the AM. The extra 20 seconds it takes to curl your lashes can immediately make the area appear wider and more open.

6. Mascara

Did we say mascara? Apply a lengthening formula mascara along the upper and lower lashes to create wide doe eyes, and then brush a thickening coat over the top for even more battable lashes. For extra effect, focus an additional swipe near the centre of the upper lash line to really draw the eyes upward.

7. Highlight the Waterline

Filling in your waterline with a dark liner can look sultry paired with smoky eye shadow, but it can also make your eyes look about half their size. To make your eyes look bigger, colour the waterline with a flat, white eye pencil instead to instantly open and brighten them.
