Gas supply improved in Pindi, claims SNGPL
The gas utility supplying the essential cooking and heating fuel to people in Rawalpindi claimed on Wednesday that the supply situation has improved.
“After addition of 15 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) of gas supply in Rawalpindi region, the overall supply of gas is now uniform throughout the city and the cantonment areas,” said Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Regional General Manager Mukhtar Shah.
“No major complaint has been registered in the last few days,” Shah said.
Besides increase in demand for heating during winters, he said that the illegal use of gas compressors has led to low gas pressure problems in the inner city. Shah said that special teams have been constituted to launch a crackdown against those who are depriving their neighbours of the heating and cooking facility by using the compressors that suck the in pipelines.
He also added that many residents use fridge compressor to suck in more gas to increase its flow and termed it dangerous and advised not to use illegal practices.
Shah also urged the consumers to refrain from tampering with meters. He appealed to the people to be careful in using gas appliances to avoid any untoward situation.
Meanwhile, residents of Khayaban Miran Bakhsh, Tench Bhatta, Dhok Saydian, Gulshan-e-Shafi, Dheri Chowk, Aslam Market, Azizabad, Kayani Road, Peoples Colony in different areas were grateful that the gas pressure had been restored. They said during winters, low gas pressure was common but now, the situation has improved considerably.
Conserving gas
Citizens have been asked to use efficient home appliances to save energy.
They have been asked to use water geysers and room heaters in accordance with their requirement, said SNGPL Chief Media Officer Shahid Akram. “Our home appliances especially room heaters and water geysers are 30% efficient and approximately 70% of the energy goes waste, causing huge loss of natural gas,” he said.
Efficiency of room heaters and water geysers in the Western countries is up to 88%, Akram said.
He said the major factor for loss of energy is poor designing and sub-standard material being used in manufacturing the main parts governing efficiency of geysers burners, gas retainers and insulation medium of water tank. To avoid excessive bills of gas, consumers should turn off room heaters and geysers before going to bed and restart them early in the morning. Shahid said that the maintenance of gas appliances can enhance their performance.
