Fire safety violators targeted

Rawalpindi CDD presents 157 challans in courts, fines worth Rs790,000

RAWALPINDI:

Owners of commercial buildings have been directed to install fire fighting equipment and arrange fire exits otherwise their premises will be sealed.

Rawalpindi Civil Defence Department (CDD) presented 157 challans in courts during November while fines worth to Rs790,000 were also imposed on the building owners for violating fire safety laws, said CDD District Officer Talib Hussian.

CDD is conducting raids to inspect fire safety measures in commercial buildings and if their owners failed to comply with the Punjab Home Department's directives, they will be sealed.

Hussain said several notices were issued to owners of various plazas to improve fire safety arrangements and they were informed that buildings without fire safety equipment will be sealed as per directives of Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haq.
