A divisional bench of the Islamabad High Court on Friday accepted the interim bail of Senate Deputy Speaker Saleem Mandviwalla and his alleged frontman, Tariq Mahmood, in the ongoing National Accountability Bureau investigation.
According to the court’s order, the bench – comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Ghulam Azam Qambrani – after hearing the lawyer’s arguments granted bail to his clients against the surety bonds worth Rs500,000 each.
The court also sent a notice to the national graft buster, seeking its response, and adjourned the hearing of the case till December 7.
It is pertinent to mention that Manviwalla has been accused as ‘benamidar’ of Tariq Mahmood however, the petitioner has maintained that the probe against them is “based on deceit”.
Mandviwalla, while addressing a press conference last month, had called NAB a “blackmailing organisation” and alleged that people went to the national graft-buster only to seek a plea bargain to save their honour.
