RAWALPINDI:

Residents of the cantonment areas in the garrison city have been advised to regularise their illegal domestic structures, built before 2015, by December 31 to avail an ongoing amnesty scheme.

A spokesperson for the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Thursday said that their amnesty scheme will expire at the end of the year.

The scheme, he said, had been initially launched for two months but was extended until December 31 on the request of residents.

Owners of illegal residential buildings which were constructed on plots up to 10 marlas, can be regularised under the scheme, he said, adding that owners can pay a fee of Rs2,500 to have a building map made by the approved architects and then submitted to the board for formal approval.

He added that three field offices were set up with the first one in Allahabad for residents of Wards one and 10, the second one on Valley Road for Wards two, three, four, eight and nine, and the third at Baraf Khana Chowk on Misrial Road for Wards five, six and seven.

Responding to a question, the official said that soon, a special operation will be launched against illegal constructions in the commercial areas. He added that citizens may register any related complaints on the CB Care application. Further, he said that the board is preparing a list of officials who were allegedly involved in illegal constructions across RCB so that strict disciplinary action may be taken against them after inquiries.
