Over 121,300 appear in MBBS, BDS entry exam

Exam for students who tested positive for Covid will be held on Dec 13

ISLAMABAD:

Over 121,300 students on Sunday appeared for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) examination held throughout the country, the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) said.

“The total number of students registered for the examination was 126,025 in addition to the 138 students who tested positive for Covid-19 and were absent in today's examination,” said a PMC official.

“The MDCAT took place at the designated centres under strict implementation of the coronavirus-related standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he added.

The exams was held in test centres set up in Abbottabad, Bahawalpur, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gwadar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Haripur, Hassanabdal, Hyderabad, Karachi, Kharian/Jhelum, Lahore, Larkana, Mirpur, Mirpur Khas, Multan, Muzaffarabad, Nawabshah, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Rahimyar Khan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sialkot, Sukkur, and Swat.

The entry exam comprised 200 multiple-choice questions to be answered in two hours. There was no negative marking. Each multiple choice question (MCQ) carried five marks. There were 80 questions related to Biology; 60 to Chemistry; 40 to Physics and 20 to English.

He said now a special MDCAT examination will be held on December 13 for Covid-19 positive students. Any student who had tested Covid-19 positive during the period from November 15 to November 29 will be permitted to sit in the special MDCAT exam.

“Covid positive applicants will be required to provide their Covid-19 test result to the PMC by uploading it at nts.org.pk/PMC. [Cases of such applicants] will be immediately referred for the special MDCAT exam,” he added.

He said the link for uploading the test result will remain operational by November 29  The special MDCAT exam will be conducted on the same structure and as per the same standard as the MDCAT exam conducted on November 29.

He said the students will use the same roll number. However, they will be required to print fresh roll number slips designating the special centers for the special MDCAT exam. The NTS will be notifying the deferred applicants via SMS for downloading the slip. APP
