Bukhari unveils ‘Brand Pakistan’

NTCB chairman details plan to promote tourism in the country

ISLAMABAD:

With the promotion of tourism a stated priority of the ruling party, the government is working on ‘Brand Pakistan’.

This was disclosed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and the National Tourism Coordination Board Chairman Sayed Zulfiqar Bukhari on Wednesday while addressing a webinar and roundtable on “Pakistan’s Tourism Potential”. The event had been organised by the National University of Science and Technology’s (NUST) Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS).

Bukhari said that concerted efforts are being made to showcase Pakistan as a land of peace and splendour to the world. In this regard, he said that the government had launched a host of fresh initiatives such as “Brand Pakistan”.

He explained that the move consists of brand identity development and an e-portal for a one-click overview of all tourist sites. He also elaborated upon the government’s plans in this regard.

Turkish Ambassador Ahsan Yurdakul highlighted the value of the Pakistan-Turkey relationship and the unconditional support for each other.

This, he maintained, provided a perfect case for the improvement of tourism-based interaction between the two friendly countries.

Walled City of Lahore Director General Kamran Lashari emphasised preserving the cultural heritage of Pakistan along with the values of tolerance and open-mindedness, and on promoting tourism by packaging and presenting this treasure to the world.

Landmark Pakistan Director Ali Naqi Hamdani spoke on the role of digital media in tourism in Pakistan. He said that to promote tourism it will be pertinent to support industries and provide vital segments of the economy with strong local and global linkages.

Earlier, NUST Rector Lt General (retired) Naweed Zaman said that in the contemporary world, tourism forms an essential component for both, national and regional growth and development frameworks.
