Jewellery worth Rs45m stolen

Armed men entered the store posing as customers and tied up the salesman

ISLAMABAD:

In arguably one of biggest heists reported in the federal capital, a jewellery store in the up-market Sector F-6 Supermarket area was robbed in broad daylight on Tuesday, with the thieves getting away with jewellery and cash worth around Rs45 million.

Subsequently, the city’s top cop suspended the Kohsar police station house officer.

Sheikh Fareed, the owner of Honey Jewellers in Sector F-6, told the police that three armed men entered his store posing as customers.

They then locked the salesman in a storeroom inside the shop and proceeded to rob gold ornaments, precious gemstones and around Rs4 million in cash and fled.

Fareed said that the robbers appeared to be between 25-45-years-old.

The police registered a case and started an investigation. They obtained footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the store and the area around Sector F-6, including those of the Safe City project, to trace the culprits.

Meanwhile, traders of the Supermarket have warned that they will stage street protests unless the robbers are caught within two days and the stolen items are recovered.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Police has suspended Kohsar police station SHO Shabbir Tanoli because the robbery took place within his jurisdiction.
