Art, literature as important as formal education

The event included a discussion on Allama Muhammad Iqbal's poetry

Art, literature and culture are as necessary and important for the development of students as is formal education.

This was stated by speakers during a literary and cultural event at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Tuesday. The event included a discussion on Allama Muhammad Iqbal's poetry, his ideology, musical performance on Kalam-e Iqbal, poetry competition, mushaira and cultural show.

PMAS-AAUR Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Qamaruz Zaman said that art, literature and culture are as necessary and important for students as education.

Highlighting the importance of art and literature in the society, he said that no society can survive without it, noting that it is one of the characteristics which separate humans from machines. Arts promote an advanced level of thinking that can be applied in other academic disciplines and beyond, he said.
