Punjab govt announces closure of schools

Decision taken due to surge in virus cases

LAHORE:

The Punjab government has decided to close all educational institutes from November 26 to December 24 to contain the spread of Covid-19 followed by winter vacations from December 25 till January 10.

All education institutions including schools, colleges, universities and religious madrassas will be closed from November 26 to January 10.

The decision has been taken due to a surge in coronavirus cases in the country. The meeting of education ministers from all four provinces was held in which they jointly submitted their recommendations in connection with the school closure and holidays following the recommendations, of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), decided to close schools.

The authorities also directed the schools' administrations to start online classes from November 26 while it was decided that all scheduled exams in December be cancelled.

In the first week of January All provinces education ministers meeting will be held and with jointly decide regarding the opening of schools.

Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Education had sent proposals to the provinces regarding the closure of the educational institutes. The first proposal suggested closure from November 24 to January 3 whereas the second proposal suggested closure of primary schools from November and third proposal recommended closure of middle schools from December 2.
