The Qambar-Shahdadkot police arrested on Wednesday two persons nominated in an FIR lodged over an attack on a college professor a day earlier.

Assistant professor Abdul Jabbar Junejo was reportedly attacked by over half a dozen men near Government Degree College Shahdadkot on Tuesday afternoon.

"Armed men attacked [me] on my way to home," Junejo told The Express Tribune, saying he was badly beaten. "They also shot at me but luckily did not hit me."

The injured teacher was taken to the Shahdadkot taluka hospital and was later shifted to Larkana.

An FIR was registered on Junejo's behalf against five persons, two of whom were unidentified.

In the FIR, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, Junejo alleges that those involved in the attack had occupied college land. The court had already decided in favour of the college, stated Junejo, adding that he and other college teachers had been raising their voices against illegal occupation

Pictures of Junejo with injury marks on his body went viral on social media after the attack, with many condemning the incident.

Shahdadkot SSP Imran Qureshi also met the injured professor and assured him of his support. A statement issued by the police said the men nominated in the FIR were arrested by the district police.

College professors from the Sukkur region also visited Junejo and warned of protests in different cities if the perpetrators were not arrested.
