Robberies, street crimes surge in Dijkot

2,631 incidents of mugging, motorcycle snatching reported in 10 months

Robbery crimes were on the rise during the last 10 months in Dijkot.

Suspected robbers in the city had allegedly looted more than Rs235.11 million gold jewellery, mobile phones and other items. During the looting, the robbers killed six people and injured 90 others. Two women were also raped during the robbery.

Citizens had expressed concern over the rising crimes in the district. Citizens had demanded from the higher authorities to remove inexperienced SHOs and replace them with experienced SHOs to curb the rising crime.

Police said in the incidents of robberies and highway robberies in Faisalabad district since January 1, the citizens had been robbed off Rs235.11 million worth of valuables in which 2,631 incidents had been reported. The robbers also snatched motorcycles from 388 civilians and cars from 11 citizens.

During the daytime robberies, robbers killed six people and injured 90 others over resistance.

Women were also sexually assaulted in the area of Thikriwala and Landianwala police station during the incident.

According to the statistics of district police, there were 2,631 incidents of robbery, motorcycle snatching and car snatching, killing 261 people, injuring 403 and snatching money from 105 citizens.

The gang of thieves robbed cars from 109 people, 1,288 motorcycles and also stole 96 citizens' vehicles including carry boxes and trucks.

The district police had failed miserably in curbing the rising incidents. As many as 35 robbers had been killed and 91 injured in police encounters across the district but despite this, the crime rate in the city could not be reduced.
