Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani has set up a new Karachi Metropolitan Corporation committee, 'Baghban,' reportedly comprising of area residents, to preserve and take care of parks in the city.
Parks Director General Taha Saleem set up a third Baghban group at 2K Park Nazimabad on Monday, with members of the committee given jerseys with 'KMC Parks' inscribed on them.
On the day, Saleem said that the two such committees formed earlier for Sir Syed Park and Hill Park have done good work so far. He expressed hope that such committees would help KMC in preserving and maintaining parks in the city.
According to Saleem, Nazimabad is among the developed areas of the city with many parks and playgrounds featured on its map, but most of them were in dilapidated conditions.
The committees have been set up with the aim of making the parks available for the public, he said, adding that this would work as no one wanted the parks in their neighbourhoods to be dirty.
The city administrator has also issued directives to plant trees and ensure the provision of facilities at parks and playgrounds, according to the parks DG.
