Biometric systems installed at 15 precincts
To ensure the presence of officers in police stations and to modernise the department, biometric attendance systems will be installed in as many as 15 stations in Rawalpindi.
A police spokesperson said that the machines are being installed on the directions of City Police Officer Ahsan Younas following a new provincial policy.
The official said that the department hopes the installation of the machines will not only increase the general attendance of officers but ensure their presence at stations to rectify various issues faced by citizens. Moreover, the department hopes the measure will become a part of the department’s efforts to bring about a change in the existing policing culture while making processes - especially that of marking attendance and roll calls - efficient.
The machines have been installed at the Airport, Cantonment, Civil Lines, Naseerabad, RA Bazaar, Race Course, Westridge, City, Ganjmandi, Pirwadhai, Ratta Amral, Waris Khan, Saddar Bairooni and the Women’s police stations.
The department has already developed a database of the officers deputed at these stations and their biometric data.
CPO Younas said that reforms will continue with the introduction of the attendance system, adding that the department will use the latest technology to enhance professionalism of officers.
