Police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the case of the murder of a bank manager who was shot dead by unidentified people near his office in September.
Some unscrupulous elements had tried to give colour of targeted killing to the murder of Syed Raza Hussain Naqvi. However the real suspect turned out to be the woman he had divorced a few months before his murder.
Naqvi was shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists near his office in Koral area on September 17. The timing coincided with the rally of religious groups, which gave divisive elements to claim that it was a targeted killing.
However, police insisted from day one that the murder was personally motivated and kept sniffing for clues.
IGP Aamir Zulfiqar had directed Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed to ensure arrest of the killers. Following his directions, two separate teams were constituted under supervision of SP Rural Farooq Amjad and SP Investigation Malik Nadeem Iqbal which included SDPO Koral DSP Qasim Niazi, SHO Koral Asjad Mahmood, Inspector Muneer from Homicide Unit and others.
These teams investigated the case using modern techniques and arrested three people, including a woman.
The suspects were identified as Shoaib, Kamran Sajjad and Zaibun Nisa. During preliminary investigations, Nisa said that the victim was her former husband and had divorced her recently and that she killed Naqvi for it.
Nisa said she had attempted to get Naqvi killed earlier, but he escaped. They succeeded in their second attempt on September 17.
