4 things the ‘Dexter’ remake should include

Earlier this month, popular TV show Dexter was given a go-ahead for a 10-episode revival. The show that follows Dexter Morgan of the Miami police department (he moonlights as a vigilante killer) ran for eight seasons until 2013.
Despite being one of the most popular shows of all time, it is still regarded as having one of the most disliked finales of all of time. As such, while fans are definitely looking forward to a remake, there are certain things that the show can improve upon. As compiled by Entertainment Weekly, here are four things that the remake should tweak

1.      Dexter should be revealed for the killer he is
From the show's first episode, viewers were teased with the setup that Morgan was a serial killer hiding in plain sight while working at the Miami Metro Police Department. Time and time again, he was threatened with exposure but figured out some clever way to protect his secret. For years, fans wondered how Morgan's colleagues would react to the truth and they never found out. It's a shoe, fans spent eight seasons waiting to drop and it never did.

2.      Embrace its core essence
The last two seasons were seen as a huge departure from what the show originally set out to be. The dark and gritty tonality, with the exception of the finale, had been shunned for silly and nonsensical plotlines. In order to achieve something fresh, the episodes couldn’t match up to the show at its peak, which was a quality drama with a darkly comedic voice.

3.      Dexter should remain the focal point
The final season introduced a plethora of new characters. Granted, the show typically has at least one Big Bad Boy at any given time to give Morgan a target and throw his character into sharp relief.  However, at the same time, it shouldn’t get sidetracked to completely move away from the lead.

4.      The ghost of Dexter’s sister should play the voice of reason
Morgan used to commune with the memory of his dearly departed father as if he were alive and right there in the room. That device was exhausted by the end of the series but it does present an opportunity for the new season: Instead of Morgan envisioning his dad, have him envision his sister, Debra now, who perished in the finale. Her sardonic idealism was a counterbalance to Dexter and this would be a way of getting that character into the new episodes.
