As many as 1.5 million of K-Electric’s (KE’s) clients, comprising residential consumers whose monthly electricity usage does not exceed 300 units, will not be affected by an increase of up to Rs2.89 per unit in KE’s power tariff, the power utility claimed in a statement issued on Thursday. “The increase, which has also been ratified by the Cabinet Division, will not be applicable on the most vulnerable consumer segment,” the statement read. The Ministry of Energy had notified the increase in KE’s power tariff earlier this month, to bring it at par with those of other electricity distribution companies in the country in line with the government’s uniform tariff policy.
