SP Iftikhar transferred from CIA following altercation with Lahore CCPO

He will now serve as SP Headquarter, Punjab Traffic in Lahore

Superintendent of Police Asim Iftikhar was relieved from his post of additional SP Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) on Friday following an altercation with Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) during a meeting a night ago.

A notification issued by the Punjab Police Department stated that Iftikhar has been posted as SP Headquarters, Punjab Traffic in Lahore. The notification has been signed by Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani.

SP Iftikhar will be replacing SP Tariq Aziz, who has been transferred as SP Legal Training College in Chung.

The conflict between the two ascended over SP Iftikhar not being taken into confidence over the arrest of the prime suspect in the motorway rape case by Lahore CCPO Umer Shoaib Sheikh. As the heated exchange of words continued, the CCPO reportedly ordered the arrest of SP Iftikhar, who also reportedly threatened Sheikh.

Other senior police officers present in the meeting interfered and spent the rest of the time calming the situation that eclipsed the main agenda of the meeting, that sources claimed was about arresting PML-N activists before dawn ahead of PDM rally in Gujranwala while they were asleep.

It was reported that CCPO Sheikh wanted to monitor the crackdown from the Punjab Safe City Authority Lahore control room.

Regardless of the fallout in the meeting, the police conducted at least 150 raids in various parts of the city and impounded hundreds of containers to block roads,

Police had prepared division wise lists of prominent activists for arresting them. Every SP was allegedly asked to arrest the activists and they had instructed the circle officers and SHOs.
