KARACHI:

An accountability court fixed the date for indictment on Friday in a case against Pak Sarzameen Party chairperson and former city nazim Mustafa Kamal and others pertaining to illegal land allotment. The court is to indict the accused on October 12.

Kamal, former Sindh Building Control Authority director-general Iftikhar Qaimkhani, Lala Fazalur Rehman, and other accused appeared before the court. The investigation officers stated that the accused on the run could not be arrested despite arrest warrants against them.

According to the National Accountability Bureau, the accused illegally allotted plots in Clifton and caused a loss of Rs2.5 billion for the national treasury.

Talking to the media outside court, Kamal said that if the opposition was committed to overthrowing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government, it should resign from the assemblies and the government would fall within an hour.

“But the Pakistan Peoples Party is enjoying ruling Sindh and is also maintaining backdoor contact with the ruling powers,” he remarked.

Slamming the Centre too, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan was behaving more like a king than a democratic leader, adding that his ‘egoistic nature’ prevented him from talking to the opposition.

Kamal further said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif should have called PPP out for destroying Sindh instead of allying with it.
