It Runs In The Family: Mehar Rahim and Hissam Tariq Rahim
Lawyer Hissam Tariq Rahim speaks about his unbreakable bond with his mother, Mehar Tariq, a home maker. Read what the mother-son duo muse about the relationship they share.
What inspires you the most about your son?
Mehar: His motivation towards what he wants to get in life.
Hissam: The most inspiring thing about her is her ability to go through so much and yet keep a smiling face at the end of the day.
What is your favourite memory of each other?
Mehar: My trips to London when he was a student there.
Hissam: Loads of them! But my favourite memory would be her trips to London and we would have at least 6-7 meals a day, constantly feeding me. She totally spoiled my gym routine back then.
What trait of your mom/son encourages you?
Mehar: His solid character.
Hissam: I am greatly encouraged by her resilience.
What is the most adventurous thing you have done together?
Mehar: Nothing!! Hissam isn’t one for adventures I feel.
Hissam: None so far! I mean we took a trip to her ancestral village during the time when terrorism was at its peak in KPK in 2008 but yeah no adventures as such.
What’s the best thing about being a part of your family?
Mehar: I can count on him for anything and everything.
Hissam: Everything I guess, my parents have given me a great life Alhamdulillah.
Is there anything that you wish had been different between you two or that you would still like to change?
Mehar: No! We’re great the way we are.
Hissam: She would definitely love to change a lot of things about my personality however I believe everything is great between us and no changes are required.
What is the one thing you love about each other?
Mehar: Pretty much everything.
Hissam: Her existence! May Allah grant her a long life so I can be my annoying self even at 50.
Is there anything you wanted to tell your mom/son but never have?
Mehar: How much I love him.
Hissam: Like she says Maa ko sab pata hota hai (mothers know it all)so yeah the woman knows everything, even stuff she shouldn’t but yes the eyes behind her head (childhood joke) are quite a thing.
Describe each other in three words?
Mehar: Tall, fair and handsome.
Hissam: Beautiful, angry and well-dressed.
How are your personalities similar?
Mehar: We both are very exclusive and shy; Hissam was shy initially now well he’s all over the place.
Hissam: We both are allergic to stupidity! And yes I get my mild glimpses of shyness from her.
Do you have a favourite child?
Mehar: I love all my sons and I’m close to all three in different ways.
Do you think you are your mom favourite child?
Hissam: Yes! just like Thor was worthy of the hammer, I am worthy of being her favourite and the exclusive owner of her utmost love and affection.
Which fictional mother-son duos are you most like?
Mehar: Jaya Bachchan and SRK from K3G.
Hissam: Martha and Clark Kent! Except I didn’t come from another planet, or maybe I did, according to her. Or our relationship can be characterised as some bollywood movie/soap opera mother-son duo.
I can’t live without my son because?
Mehar: I can’t live without my son because he’s like my best friend and I can count on him for absolutely anything and share every detail of my life with him.
Hissam: I can’t live without my mother because I love her too much and life will be very melancholic without her presence which brightens up my world.
