With the number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases falling and the lockdown all but lifted, the administrators of the garrison city have decided to revive sporting activities. To formally announce the resumption of sports, the district administration has decided to stage a marathon next month. Directions in this regard were issued by the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq. Subsequently, the District Sports Department has started preparations for the marathon. In this regard, District Sports Officer (DSO) Shams Tauheed Abbasi said that the race, called “Dorr Rawalpindi” (Run Rawalpindi) will be organised on October 11. He added that the marathon will be dedicated to the renowned sprinter, Abdul Khaliq, also known as the ‘Bird of Asia’. The official said that the race will commence from the Sports Gymnasium on Double Road and conclude at the Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex. Abbasi said that the top ten finishers of the marathon will be awarded prizes.
