Robbers attack police, fail to free accomplice
Armed suspects failed to wrest their accomplice from police custody, as their attack on a police squad injured their accomplice.
Officers at the City police station on Sunday said that they had arrested a suspect, Akash Ahmed, for his alleged role in stealing Rs7.4 million on Saddar Road along with his accomplices. During the investigation, the suspect had revealed the alleged hideout where the robbers had stashed the stolen money.
The police teams were heading to the location with Ahmed when two other members of his gang attacked them.
They started firing at the police squad and attempted to free their partner. However, one of the bullets struck Ahmed, injuring them.
When the police started to fire back at the gangsters, the suspects fled. The injured suspect was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The police launched a search in the proximity to arrest the suspects but failed to apprehend any suspect until the filing of this report.
Rawal SP Mazhar Roy said that Ahmed is named in five incidents of robbery and snatching by the Airport police. He added that the suspect had altered his name on his computerised national identity card (NIC) to evade detection and dodge the police.
SP Roy further said that police teams are conducting raids to arrest the other members of Ahmed’s gang.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus has also directed to book the fugitives at the earliest.
