Police claim robbers’ apprehension after chase, exchange of fire

The Rawalpindi police claimed to have arrest five alleged robbers including three in injured condition after a shootout in the precincts of Saddar police station on Thursday.

The police officials said that they were manning a picket near the Ranyal area when the signalled a car to stop. There were three people inside the vehicle while two other riding a motorbikewere tailing it.

However, instead of stopping, the suspects allegedly opened fire at the police and rode away. A police mobile started chasing and the suspects who kept firing at the police intermittently. Police said that when they reached near Kohala, the cops chasing the robbers got a chance and opened retaliatory fire injuring three of the suspects.

The police officials asserted that they have arrested the remaining two suspects too, though they had not been injured by police firing.

The injured suspects include 28-year-old Mohsin Ali, 31-year-year-old Jibran Ali, and 38-year-old Muhammad Ashraf. Police have moved the suspects to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) for treatment where they have been put under strict security.

The officials said that none of the policemen sustained injures during the exchange of fire. They added that the suspects would undergo identification parade and asserted that they could have been involved in several incidents of robberies which would be disclosed during the investigation.

BBH officials said that all suspects had bullet injuries in legs and their condition was out of danger.
