KARACHI:

Police have decided to exhume the body of the female doctor who committed suicide on August 18 in Defence Housing Society and will write a letter to the court, seeking its approval for exhumation.

After the permission is granted for exhumation, a team comprising doctors, surgeons, medico-legal officers and police officials would visit the graveyard in Mirpurkhas, where the deceased, M*'s body is buried, and exhume the body for autopsy.

The decision has come in the wake of M's father alleging that she had been drugged and raped.

According to police, the exhumation and post-mortem of M's body is necessary to determine whether there is any truth in her father's allegations. It will also help in tracking down three persons booked in the case after M's father made the allegation, they said.

An inspection of the crime scene had indicated that M was shot in the head from the right side, while the report released by the medico-legal officer at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Hassan Ahmed, stated that she was shot from the left side.

Later, M's father cast doubts on the report and alleged the MLO of aiding the accused booked in the case.

Two of those accused have been granted pre-arrest bails from a district court until September 5. Besides, the third accused has been granted bail against a surety of Rs500,000.

The court has also ordered police to submit the challan of the case after the completion of investigation.
