Hospitals across the metropolis faced the wrath of torrential rains on Thursday too, as rainwater entered wards in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital (DRPCH), Liaquat Naitonal Hospital and Saifee Hospital.
As a result, patients had to be shifted to other wards for safety.
The newly-constructed emergency ward at DRPCH was flooded due to the poor drainage system, along with other departments including the radiology department. As a result, services were suspended.
Taking notice of the situation and the report of a similar occurrence at the hospital in The Express Tribune on Wednesday, Sindh health secretary Dr Aslam Jatoi visited the hospital and expressed annoyance.
The hospital's medical superintendent, Dr Noor Mohammad Soomro, told The Express Tribune that they had constructed the new emergency ward, which was still incomplete, at a cost of over Rs6 million, yet the ward was still inundated by the monsoon downpour.
