SHIKARPUR:

An elderly man kidnapped a month ago from Khanpur was found murdered in the katcha area of Kot Shahoo on Friday as his heirs failed to pay a ransom of Rs5 million to his kidnapper for his release .

The kidnappers had demanded Rs10 million ransom for Abdul Ghaffar Hakro, but later reduced it to Rs5 million. However, Hakro's family did not meet their demand and let the old man die. The captors subsequently killed him and abandoned his body near an embankment of a canal.

Family members alleged that despite repeatedly seeking assistance from the police and local authorities, no effective action was taken to secure Hakro's release.

Police transported Hakro's body to a government hospital for medico-legal procedures and later handed it over to his family. Investigations into the incident were ongoing, police said.

The incident underscores the growing power of criminal elements in the area, who continue to challenge the state with impunity. Residents of Shikarpur have expressed increasing insecurity and frustration over the lack of effective measures by law enforcement agencies.
