RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi administration has finalised arrangements to brief Prime Minister Imran Khan on two possible designs for the Leh Expressway. Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed will brief the premier on the project, sources said. The project will be built under public-private partnership to offer an expressway for residents of the two cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to communicate with each other along with heavy goods traffic. The Punjab government will only provide funds for land acquisition for the expressway. In the initial phase, 500 Kanals of land adjoining the Swan River will be auctioned on an open tender and the winner of the contract will construct the expressway. Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi administration, as well as the Punjab government, has turned down a recommendation for awarding contracts for the construction of roads along the Expressway to a renowned builder.
