BDS to get new robots, suits
With Rawalpindi having a bloody history as far as explosives and Muharram is concerned, its Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) will soon get an upgrade in the form of latest bomb-defusal equipment. The Interior Ministry has released a cache of equipment worth Rs400 million for the Punjab Civil Defence Department (CDD). After legal formalities, the cache will be handed over to the Rawalpindi CDD. The equipment used by the Quick Response Team (QRT) of BDS to increase their effectiveness in defusing explosives. Members of the QRT have already been trained to handle these new tools. The equipment provided includes a remote-controlled bomb-defusing robot, an x-ray machine, new bomb-proof suits and kits comprising the requisite tools. The equipment will be handed over to Rawalpindi police officials soon. After receiving the cache, the BDS will also perform a full dress rehearsal.
